Frownies

Frownies Review

Frownies is a skin care line that is all natural that was developed in 1889 by Margaret Kroesen. Frownies are an anti wrinkle patch and have been dubbed the best wrinkle reducer. For over 125 years, Frownies have been around to naturally defy the ageing process. Frownies will help to circulate the blood to the skin and help promote a clearer and more rejuvenated looking skin. This anti-ageing skin care line also helps to diminish and eliminate wrinkles that have formed on ageing skin.

Many celebrities have added Frownies to their anti-aging skin care regime. These celebrities include Danica McKellar, Raquel Welch, Kashmera Shah, Missy Pyle, Rashida Jones, and Renee Russo.

How do Frownies work?

Frownies facial patches are made from all natural materials. They work when applied to the face by targeting wrinkles and giving a younger appearance to the skin. These patches are applied at the night time during rest so the muscles can be relaxed and correct themselves while undoing wrinkles. There are no active ingredients in the patches. They work by retraining the muscles when applied to the skin, in which they will lie in a flat position. Frownies will not work on a sagging jaw line or the neck and should only be applied to the forehead.

How does one apply Frownies?

Frownies anti-ageing wrinkle patch should be applied over the wrinkles between the eyes on the forehead. The skin should first be cleansed and fully dried to allow the patch to stick. The skin should not have any heavy creams or moisturizers on it. Begin by smoothing out the skin on the forehead, then apply the patch. If the patch is too big, it may be cut down to size to fit the wrinkle. The patch should be left on for a minimum of three hours to work properly. A wrinkle must be completely covered for the patch to be effective. If the skin is stretched out too much when smoothing it down before applying the patch, the skin may become red. To make the patch work faster and harder, an individual can apply Immune perfect under the patch. Immune Shield can be applied after an individual takes off the patch to help the skin be protected against free radicals as it contains vitamin E.

The patch should be used a few nights a week for a month to see full results. After the first night of wearing Frownies, an individual will notice a difference in the wrinkles on the skin. Within three nights, lines will be softened, with deeper lines taking longer. When the lines have disappeared, an individual can discontinue use of Frownies. Should the wrinkles start appearing again, an individual can start treatment process again.

How can Frownies facial patches be considered to be all natural?

Frownies facial patches are made with natural products. The paper used is unbleached craft paper, with a corn based adhesive that is safe for sensitive skin. It is suggested if the skin is sensitive that the facial patch be applied to the wrist on the first application to be certain there are no reactions and to base how the skin will react. It is also gluten free. The paper will let the skin breathe when applied. The paper has been tested to make sure it is safe for the skin to use.

Omnilux Light Therapy

Omnilux light therapy is  a treatment that can help the skin produce more collagen and help repair tissues in the skin. This light therapy will also  increase cell vitality.  Narrow band wavelength lights will treat many skin conditions, such as sun damage, acne, and skin cancer.   Using this light therapy, the skin can see an improvement in pore size, better skin texture and tone, and give a healthy complexion.  This non-invasive treatment is suitable for men and women of any age.

Omnilux light therapy is based on many years of scientific research.  It has been used worldwide  by over 3000 skin specialists and plastic surgeons. Over 80% of individuals that have used Omnilux light therapy reported having a softening of fine lines and wrinkles, with 75% reporting smoother and softer skin.

What is Omnilux Light Therapy?

Omnilux light therapy uses a combination of infra red light and pure red light to stimulate skin tissues found deep in the skin.  This will lead to smoother skin, softening of fine lines and wrinkles, and an improved skin tone.  This therapy will help to counteract the signs of ageing. The treatment takes about half an hour to  perform.  There is no downtime associated with Omnilux light therapy.  Individuals may even apply makeup right after the session.  Typically, for best results, an individual will have a course of 6 to 9 treatments over a period of 3 to 6 weeks.  Results can be seen in as little as 4 weeks.  Booster sessions can be used every 4 to 6 weeks to maintain results seen from Omnilux light therapy.

There are three different light colours used during the light treatment.  Blue light (also referred to as Omnilux blue)  will kill bacteria on the skin, which is needed for those with acne.  This light will stabilize the production of sebum and treat any active acne.   Red light, or Omnilux Revive,  will stimulate collagen formation and is anti-inflammatory.   This light will penetrate deep into the skin to improve uneven skin tones while reducing the fine lines and wrinkles.   Near-infrared light or   white light (Omnilux Plus)  will promote the healing of the tissue while stimulating collagen.  This light has a longer wavelength than the other two lights.  A skin specialist or plastic surgeon will be able to use different combinations of the light colours based on the individual’s specific needs to clear acne, rejuvenate the skin or reduce wrinkles and fine lines of the skin.   The skin will be cleansed prior to treatment, and after the procedure is completed, a moisturiser and sunblock will be applied.

How safe is Omnilux Light Therapy?

Omnilux light therapy is a very safe procedure to have performed.  Many report the treatment as relaxing.  This FDA and TGA cleared treatment is not painful due to the fact that no heat is generated from the procedure.  This light therapy is natural since it works with the body to promote healing. The eyes will be protected during a treatment with a pair of goggles. The light will not damage the skin and there have been no reported side effects. The treatment can be performed on all skin types and colours.

Can Omnilux Light Therapy be used with any other treatments?

Omnilux light therapy can be used with other treatments.  These treatments include chemical peels, microdermabrasion,  Fraxel Non-ablative laser, Fraxel CO2 Re:pair Ablative Laser Fraxel CO2 Re:pair laser, and intense pulsed light (IPL photofacial), as well as other treatments.  Omnilux light therapy treatments will help to reduce any swelling and pain, as well as redness.  This therapy will not only condition the skin, but help it heal faster and will reduce any side effects of treatments.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion – Treatment, Side Effects and After Care

Dermabrasion is a procedure that many skin specialists perform in the comfort of their office. The upper layers of the skin will be removed with a brush to resurface the skin. The most common area that individuals have dermabrasion done is the face, but it can certainly be performed on other parts of the body. It is used to help improve the appearance of the skin, and is used by those that have fine lines and acne.

What does dermabrasion treat?

Dermabrasion is used for smoothing the skin out. It is used commonly to treat acne, surgery, or injury scars and ageing skin. Some skin specialists will use it to treat rhinophyma (enlarging of the nose), which is caused by rosacea. Dermabrasion may also be used to remove tattoos, treat uneven skin tones, and treat precancerous skin patches.

How is dermabrasion performed?

The skin that is to be treated should first be cleansed. It will then be marked, and the skin will be numbed. Ice packs can also be applied at this time to the face for up to half an hour prior to the dermabrasion treatment. The skin will be treated in small areas at a time. The rotating brush used will take off the top layer of the skin. This will cause small wounds on the skin that will bleed. The blood will be wiped away with clean gauze, and an ointment will be applied with a dressing to keep the wounds clean.

After dermabrasion is performed, it will take the skin 5 to 8 days to heal. New skin will be formed, which will be pink to red in colour. The skin will fade over time, in a time span of 6 to 12 weeks.

Does Dermabrasion hurt?

Dermabrasion can be uncomfortable. The skin will be numbed prior to the treatment, and ice packs will be used. Pain medication can be prescribed as well. The skin may feel like it has been brush burned for few days after the procedure. Most individuals report a feeling of mild to moderate discomfort, with some itching or a tightness.

What are the side effects of dermabrasion?

Side effects of dermabrasion include infection due to the wounds that the process creates, formation of scars, and an uneven change in skin colour that can be temporary or permanent. The skin may also darken, which is usually temporary but can remain permanent.

After dermabrasion is done, there may be an increase in pore size. This will subside after any swelling has gone down. Rarely, dermabrasion can cause a fungal, viral, or bacterial infection. This is the same virus that can cause cold sores.

Can dermabrasion be used by everyone?

Dermabrasion is not for everyone. Those that have used certain acne medications in the past year should not have dermabrasion done. Individuals with burn scars caused by radiation should avoid dermabrasion as well, and anyone with a recurring herpes simplex infection should not have the procedure done.

Is there anything one should do after dermabrasion?

Following dermabrasion, an individual should not drink any alcohol for 48 hours. The patient should also refrain from smoking. Any products that contain aspirin will not be able to be taken for a week after dermabrasion. Showers will not be permitted within the first 48 hours, but a bath may be taken as long as the area that was treated does not get wet.

Direct sunlight and wind will need to be avoided for 4 to 6 months after the procedure. These two elements can cause blotchy pigmentation in those individuals that have had dermabrasion done. Should an individual have to go in the sun, an SPF should be applied and a wide brimmed hat should be worn. The sunscreen should have an SPF of at least 30.

Lip Injections Sydney

Guide to Lip Injections Sydney

As one ages, lips have the tendency to lose the natural fullness and plumpness they might have once had. Lip injections Sydney can help to relieve the thinning from lips, giving them a fullness and vitality. As many woman age, they will see drooping in the corners of the lips, with the upper lip elongating and the lower lip drooping. Lip injections Sydney can help to make the lips fuller, which many ageing woman find helpful in creating a youthful appearance. For those individuals that have always had thin lips, ageing might mean even thinner lips, due to the decrease in collagen and natural fats, both of which keep the lips plump. For most individuals, lip injections will be needed once every nine to twelve months.

Lip injections are a non-surgical procedure. A small needle, usually 30 to 31 gauge (the same thickness as twelve human hairs) is used to inject a substance into the lips. Other names for lip injections include dermal fillers, lip augmentation, and lip fillers.

Why have lip injections done?

There are many reasons as to why individuals would want to have lip injections in Sydney done. Lip injections can create a “cupid’s bow” (the curve of the lip that is between the nasolabial folds) that is enhanced. Fuller lips that have a poutier appearance can be gained from having a dermal filler done on the lips. Softened vertical upper lip lines can be seen when the lip filler is injected into this area. A stronger vermilion border (the border around the lips that is slightly darker around the edge of the lips) could also be seen with lip injections.

There are many benefits that lip injections have. A more defined smile can be seen. An enhanced pout will be seen. The individual can have the corners of the mouth turned up to create a happier expression.  Having lip injections can create a younger looking individual. They may also help prevent lipstick bleeding.

How do lip injections work?

Lip injections Sydney work by being injected into the lips, just below the skin with a very fine needle, to add volume to the lips. The procedure will be performed with the same tools that are used for filling in wrinkles on the face. The procedure can be done at a cosmetic clinic and should be performed by a registered medical practitioner. At Advanced Dermatology our lip injections procedures are performed ONLY by practitioners and it can be done in a short amount of time.  Little or no down time will be needed. A biocompatible substance will be injected into various spots of the lips, determined by the cosmetic practitioner to achieve the desired lip shape.

An individual will first speak to their cosmetic practitioner to discuss medical history and background. The individual will discuss how they would like the lips to look, and the cosmetic practitioner will create a plan to create the look that is desired. At the lip injection appointment, the lips will have either a cream applied or an injection to numb the area.  As this is working on numbing the area, the lips will be mapped out to how they are to be treated. Lip injections will then be given, and afterward cold compresses will be applied. There may be some pain associated with dermal lip fillers, as the lips have many nerve endings, but with the use of local anesthesia, the pain is greatly diminished.

Lip Injections Side Effects

There are some minor risks associated with lip injections. There might be some bruising and swelling with redness at the injection site. The bruising can last anywhere from two to ten days. It is important to choose a cosmetic practitioner that is skilled in performing lip injections. Those that opt for a non-skilled cosmetic practitioner to perform lip injections may see lumps in the lips, uneven lips or disproportioned lips. Infection could also set in. Stiffening of the lip, scarring and ulceration could be a result of utilising a non-skilled doctor to perform a lip injection. Those who suffer from cold sores, severe hypertension or a facial nerve disorder will want to discuss with their skin practitioner if lip injections are right for them. Those with lupus, diabetes, blood clotting problems or an infection like oral herpes are not good candidates for lip fillers. If you are interested in lip injections in Sydney, you can get in touch with one of our skin practitioners by filling the form below or by calling us on 1300 788 800.

The Cost of Lip Injections Sydney

The cost of lip injections will vary based on who is doing the injection (the experience of the cosmetic practitioner), the type of dermal filler used, and where the individual chooses to have the procedure done.  Usually only one to two syringes of the material injected will be needed. The cost could be anywhere from $600 to $2,000. Most insurance plans will not cover the cost of lip injections.

Types of Lip Injections Sydney

There are many different kind of lip injections. Some of which include:

  • Collagen- Collagen was once the most used dermal filler. It comes in two forms, human based and bovine based (cow). The human collagen can come from the individual’s body or from a deceased  human donor. There is a 3% chance of allergic reaction to bovine based collagen and will require an allergy test be done prior to the injection. Collagen injections usually last anywhere from two and a half months to four months.
  • Calcium hydroxylapatile- This is the heaviest of any of the dermal fillers. No skin testing is required as it is biosynthetically produced (no animal products are used). The side effects of this dermal filler are minimal, and it produces very natural results. This dermal filler will also not migrate.
  • Fat injections- The body’s own fat will be used to inject into the lips. Fat will be removed from the patient’s own body, usually on the thigh or abdomen. Rejection or allergic reactions rarely occur with fat injections.
  • For information on what type of fillers Advanced Dermatology uses we recommend contacting us.

Lip Injections Before and After

Are there any pre-procedure instructions to follow for lip injections?

Before undergoing lip injections, always follow the instructions given by the cosmetic practitioner. Instructions for those that are having a fat transfer might include stopping taking certain medications, herbs, and vitamins a few weeks prior to the procedure. The individual may need to plan on having a ride home if pain medication that could impair driving will be needed.

What can one expect after a lip injection?

After the lips have been injected with a filler, one can expect to see results in about a week. The lips will appear to be swollen after the injection, and the new shape of the lips will be seen in about seven days. For twenty four hours after the procedure is done, it is best to avoid all strenuous exercise and alcohol. For two weeks after the procedure, limit amount of time out in the sun, and avoid extreme hot and cold temperatures. Exposure to the sun and extreme hot and cold can cause swelling, redness and itching at the injection site.

Sunspots

What are Sunspots?

Sunspots are a common skin problem, however they are not dangerous to the skin. To many they are just unsightly.  They develop on the skin after prolonged periods of sun exposure. Any age can get sun spots, although those with lighter skin complexion are more susceptible to them.

Sun spots are also known as solar lentigines. They can vary in colour, shape and size and show up most commonly on the hands and face, or areas where there is the most sun exposure. It usually takes years or decades for sun spots to be formed on the skin. Do note that tanning booths or beds will often cause the skin to spot prematurely, which can darken over time.

Sun Spots Removal and Treatment

Should you have sunspots already, a great treatment that is very effective for eliminating sunspots is IPL technology (intense pulse light). In this process, a broad spectrum light will correct the sunspots. The wavelengths will penetrate deep into the skin to stimulate healthy cells, while the skin is rejuvenated and the sun damage is removed. The ultimate goal of using this technique is to make the skin more even, while decreasing the dark spots on the skin. Good candidates for this procedure are those with light to medium skin tones that have superficial pigmentation. It has been proven effective to use on the face, hands, neck, arms and other parts of the body. One to three treatments is usually needed to remove sun spots from the skin. Treatments will be scheduled at one month intervals. A word of caution to those that are looking into IPL. It is best to avoid the sun two weeks prior to treatment and another two weeks after. After each treatment, the sunspots will begin to get darker and then flake off.  Treatments are completed within 15 to 30 minutes. Post treatment, the skin can be a little red, and may feel like you have encountered a sunburn. However, with this treatment, there is no down time needed so you will be able to resume your normal activities right after treatment.

Does IPL Hurt?

IPL technology does not hurt. There is a brief pinching sensation that is felt, but feels no worse than a rubber band snapping the skin. No numbing creams are needed for the procedure. Gel packs may be used before and after treatment to help with any pain that is associated with the treatment. Please also take caution in deciding who will perform IPL on you. Look for someone who has training, such as a dermatologist or a skin specialist. The skin specialist should be knowledgeable about the procedure and the machine, and should be able to answer any questions that you may have. Please read our article on how to choose the right  laser clinic in Australia.

How to Prevent Sunspots on Skin?

The best way to avoid sunspots is through prevention. Limiting the amount of sun exposure is the key way to avoid them. If you must be out in the sun, then keep all areas of the skin covered with loose material. Wear a wide brimmed hat to protect the face, and always wear sunscreen. Make sure the sunscreen contains both protections from UVA and UVB rays. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before heading outside, and reapply it every 2 hours, or when the skin gets wet. Try to avoid the sun during peak hours, between 10 am and 4 pm.

Many do not realise this, but the car is where many get a high dose of UVB rays. See about installing an anti UVB ray coating on your vehicles windows for added protection.

At night, to help prevent sunspots, consider applying a moisturiser with retinol. This vitamin A compound will help to restore the skin, making sun spots less noticeable. At Advanced Dermatology we offer skincare which has been clinically proven to help reduce the appearance of sun spots and other skin conditions which may show sings of ageing. For more information see Advanced Dermatology Skincare.

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation: Causes, Treatments and Results

Hyperpigmentation is a harmless condition in which patches of skin are darker than the surrounding skin. Hyperpigmentation is a result of excessive melanin, the pigment that produces normal skin colouring. Any race can be effected by hyperpigmentation, however, those of darker Asian, African, or Mediterranean skin tones are more prone to it. It effects both men and woman.

What causes hyperpigmentation? Who is susceptible to getting hyperpigmentation?

There are many causes of hyperpigmentation. Those include sun damage, inflammation, and other skin injuries. Picking at the skin, hormonal changes, heredity, and certain medications, such as anti-seizure drugs, antibiotics, and hormone treatments can all cause hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is associated with many diseases and conditions: Melasma, Cushing disease, Addison’s disease, celiac disease, Linea nigra, Acanthosis nigricans, smoker’s melanosis, Gravel’s disease, mercury poisoning, tinea, porphyria, Haemochromatosis, Nelson’s syndrome, Aromatase deficiency, and Cronkite-Canada syndrome.

While anyone can develop hyperpigmentation, those with fair to medium skin tones are the most susceptible to it. If an individual has spent a lot of time out in the sun before the age of 18, without sunscreen, a person can see higher damage to the skin. The same goes for tanning beds. Many woman will also find they have hormonal hyperpigmentation, which could be caused by the birth control they are taking.

What are the signs and symptoms of hyperpigmentation?

Dark patches of skin that is blotchy is a sign of hyperpigmentation. These blotches can be seen on the face, the chin, forehead, cheeks, hands, chest, upper lip, and legs.

Is there a cure for hyperpigmentation? Is it permanent?

There is no cure for hyperpigmentation. There are many treatments a dermatologist can recommend to help lighten the condition and help to treat it. Hyperpigmentation can last forever, however, depending on how severe it is, it can last only a short amount of time as well. Many times pregnant woman will have hyperpigmentation before giving birth, but once the woman has given birth, the hyperpigmentation will disappear.

What treatment works to treat hyperpigmentation?

There are many successful treatments that work to treat hyperpigmentation. One very successful treatment is IPL skin rejuvenation, also known as photorejuvenation. This age defying skin treatment treats damage done to the skin non-invasively. This means there are no surgeries required and the skin’s epidermal surface is not disturbed. This is a FDA cleared treatment that literally has no downtime. A patient can schedule the treatment during their lunch hour and return to work as soon as the procedure is done. One treatment usually lasts about 20 minutes. Other benefits of using IPL skin rejuvenation to treat hyperpigmentation include very little pain, the ability to treat the entire face, not just small sections at a time, addresses skin conditions that are visible, provides results that are natural looking and gradual and gives long results. IPL skin rejuvenation can be used not only on the face, but also the neck, hands, and chest.

Is there a way to prevent hyperpigmentation?

There are a few ways that hyperpigmentation can be prevented. Those include wearing a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher each day, and being mindful of the sun exposure. Stay out of the sun during peak hours of the day. A hat should be worn while in the sun. Exfoliate the skin to help remove the build up of dead skin cells, as discoloration can be a result of these dead skin cells. Exfoliating the skin will help to minimise hyperpigmentation. Exfoliation can be done 1 to 2 times per week if an individual has dry skin, and 2 to 3 times per week if the individual has oily or combination skin.

Laser Skin Treatment

Laser Skin Treatment: Laser Skin Resurfacing Pros And Cons

Laser skin treatments are incredibly popular, and for good reason. These procedures can work to remove and reduce the appearance of age on the face and other parts of the body, but are far less invasive than a similar cosmetic surgery. Less invasive procedures tend to be less expensive and have fewer risks of complications, which add to the popularity of the procedure.

Laser skin treatments usually consist of skin resurfacing treatments. These procedures involve the removal of layers of skin from the face, to minimize or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles. Although the face is the most common target for these procedures, they are also performed on the chest, neck, and hands. Any part of the body that is showing signs of age can potentially be treated with skin resurfacing.

These procedures are best for fine lines. The deeper the lines, the more skin will need to be removed in order for the wrinkles to be deeply reduced or eliminated. The finer the wrinkles, the less skin that will need to be removed to show the results. There are limits to how much skin the procedure can remove at a time, so the finer and lighter the wrinkles are, the more effective skin resurfacing treatments are.

Before deciding to get laser skin resurfacing treatments, be sure that you are prepared for the procedure and the recovery. Although these procedures are not as intense as facelifts or other cosmetic surgery options, they do involve local or sometimes even general anesthesia, and the recovery can last for a couple of months.

Some people are not well suited to laser skin resurfacing. People who have ongoing acne issues are not good candidates because the laser skin resurfacing treatments can aggravate acne and cause further breakouts, which are doubly unpleasant during laser skin resurfacing treatment recovery. Also, the procedure causes temporary skin lightening, making dark skinned people less well suited for laser skin resurfacing.

There are two types of lasers that are commonly used in skin resurfacing. These are the CO2 laser, which is the established, older technology, and the ebrium treatment, which is newer. Technology continues to advance rapidly in this area, and the CO2 lasers that are used today are less invasive than they used to be.

CO2 laser resurfacing has been used for many years. They have been tested and refined over the years, and are considered to be standard for laser skin resurfacing treatments. Many doctors have used them for years and are comfortable with them. They do have some drawbacks compared to the ebrium laser resurfacing treatments, which your doctor can go over with you in depth.

The newest version of CO2 laser resurfacing skin treatments involves something called fractionated CO2. This means that the CO2 laser uses small, short pulses of lasers or alternatively it could use a continuously beam of the laser but in a scatter pattern to minimize the damage. This means that the laser removes smaller layers of the skin and has less heat damage than you’d see with the traditional CO2 lasers.

Erbium laser skin resurfacing is a newer procedure and as such has several benefits. This procedure is far less damaging than the CO2 lasers as it causes less burning and damage to the surrounding tissues. As a result, it can be used for moderately deep wrinkles on various parts of the body and also is a better choice for dark skinned patients.

Before your procedure, your doctor will tell you what to do to get ready. There are some standard precautions that you should take before any procedure, and the laser skin resurfacing procedure is no different. For example, you should stop taking blood-thinning medications and stop smoking, which makes it harder for the body to recover from laser skin treatments.

The procedure itself involves some numbing agents. Depending on your situation, you can have a local anesthetic, which has less dangers and keeps you awake and alert during the procedure, or you could also have a general anesthetic, which is more common if you are having a longer procedure, with a larger part of your face or body being treated.

The recovery time varies, depending on how large of an area was treated and what kind of treatment you had. Generally speaking, laser skin treatments, including laser skin resurfacing, is an outpatient treatment. The recovery, however, will take several weeks or months depending on the type of laser treatment you had and how much of your skin was treated. During the recovery time, you should use a broad-spectrum SPF to protect your skin, as it will be sensitive.

There are rarely complications for this procedure, although as with any procedure there is always a risk of complications. Knowing your risks and how to minimize them is the best way to prevent any major issues. Your doctor will be able to tell you if you are at a higher risk for complications and you can decide if you want to go forward with the treatment knowing that. Again, these risks are very rare.

The cost of laser skin treatments vary from place to place and practitioner to practitioner. However, as a cosmetic procedure, it is unlikely that your insurance will cover any laser skin treatment. There are exceptions to this, of course. If you have scarring or other issues that laser skin resurfacing can help with, it may be possible to get your insurance to cover part or all of the cost. This is uncommon, however, and you should be prepared to work with your doctor to handle payment.

A qualified professional can help you decide if laser skin treatment is best for you, and what kind you should have.

Acne Treatment Sydney

What causes Acne?

Acne occurs when the sebaceous glands become infected or inflamed with oil or dead skin cells. Acne can include blackheads, whiteheads, and red patches on the skin that are inflamed. Acne will commonly appear on the face, chest, neck, back and shoulders. Acne can happen to anyone, at any age, but is commonly found in pregnant woman, teenagers, woman and girls that will be menstruating in a few days, and individuals that are taking certain medications such as lithium or androgens. Genetics may also play a role in acne. Other factors that play a huge role in acne are the cosmetics an individual uses on their skin, cell rate turnover (if the turnover rate is poor, one can expect the dead skin cells to block pores), stress, overly active sebaceous glands (oil glands), diet and food allergies.

Different Types of Acne

Acne has many forms including:

  • Whiteheads and blackheads, which are commonly described as comedones. Hair follicles will become plugged with oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. When they are open at the skin surface, they are referred to as blackheads, due to the dark appearance they have in the plugs of the hair follicles. When they are closed, they are referred to as whiteheads. Comedones are non-inflammatory lesions.
  • Pustules are pimples that have white pus at the tips. They tend to be red and tender. They are an inflammatory lesion.
  • Papules are often a red and tender inflammatory lesion. They are small bumps that are raised that have an infection in the hair follicle.
  • Cysts are inflammatory lesions that are very painful. They are filled with pus, and look like boils. Cysts will often lead to scarring of the skin.
  • Nodules are painful lumps that are classified as an inflammatory skin lesion. They are large and solid and are formed by secretion build up in the hair follicles.

Acne Treatment: ELOS Acne Clearing

While acne is usually not a severe medical condition, many want to improve the appearance of the skin. It is often wise to visit with your skin specialist to avoid having acne get worse. Or leaving unwanted scars on the skin. There are many acne treatment Sydney options that your skin specialist can offer, healing the skin of unwanted acne and scarring. Some of the most popular acne treatments are the most effective treatments on the market. Elos is a very effective acne treatment that is noninvasive. Under this method of treatment, the skin will be cleared of acne, and an individual will see healthy skin that is vibrant. This technology brings forth comfort and is very safe. Elos utilises two forms of energy (optical or laser or pulsed light and radio frequency) to give the skin a fulfilling treatment. Elos is safe on all skin types due to the fact that it uses lower optical energy. What this means for the skin is there is a lower risk of damage to the epidermis. Elos uses radio frequency energy that isn’t absorbed by the melanin in the skin. It can targets the skin’s tissue by using long or short pulses. This radio frequency will allow a deeper penetration into the skin. Elos will treat bacteria that is causing the pores to become clogged, and will help to heal acne by facilitating fast healing time. After the skin is treated with Elos, it will look pink and feel warm. This pinkness will fade after a day or two, and an individual will be able to wear sunscreen and cosmetics right away. The skin could have the possibility to be sensitive, so it is best to avoid any harsh scrubs or cleansers at this time. During the treatment, a layer of gel will be applied to the area being treated, then the area will be treated with a series of pulses of bright light.  Several rounds of the Elos treatment may be needed to see desired results. The procedure can be repeated every month.

Acne Treatment: Chemical Peels

Another effective acne treatment Sydney that can be done by a skin specialits are chemical peels. Chemical peels improve the appearance of the skin, thus making acne banish. The outer layer of the skin will be peeled away, taking the gunk that causes the pores to clog up with it. There are many different kinds of chemical peels, from lactic acid peels to glycolic acid peels. Other types include salicylic acid peels, TCA peel, Jesner’s peel and phenol peel. Chemical peels are effective and are an outpatient procedure. Your skin will be cleansed first, then the chemical solution will be applied. One or more chemical solutions will be applied to the skin and left on a set amount of time. There may be some burning and stinging of the skin. The solution will then be rinsed off and a lotion can be applied to the skin to seal in moisture. A mild chemical peel can be performed every one to four weeks while a medium depth peel can be performed once every six to twelve months. Deep chemical peels are typically only performed once on the skin.

Acne Treatment: Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion can be used to treat acne as well. Microdermabrasion involves removing the outer layer of the skin. Fine crystals will be sprayed onto the area that is being treated. The crystals will exfoliate the skin. The skin will then be vacuumed up, taking the crystals and the dead skin cells with it. Microdermabrasion will help to increase circulation, and will suck out anything that is clogging the pores. Smoother skin will be a result of microdermabrasion, and pores will be diminished. How Are Wrinkles Formed?

In order to understand how to find the best wrinkle cream, one must understand how wrinkles are formed. Wrinkles are ridges, folds or creases that are formed in the skin. They are formed due to repeated expressions on our faces, smoking, sun damage, some medications, dehydration, and other factors. When we use the same facial expressions, such as laughing, smiling, or frowning, a groove is formed under the skin surface. As the skin ages, we loose flexibility in the skin and the skin will not bounce back like it once did when were younger. Smoking can reduce the blood supply to our skin, making wrinkles form. Exposure to the sun (UV rays) can cause individuals to get wrinkles earlier in life. Even genetics play a huge role. If your parents wrinkled early in life, there is a better chance that you will wrinkle early in life.

Two types of wrinkles can be formed on the skin. These are deep furrows and surface lines. Often times the best wrinkle cream will be used for surface lines and to prevent the wrinkles from getting any deeper, turning them into deep furrows.

What is the Difference Between Medical Grade and Normal Grade Skin Care Products?

There are many different brands of wrinkle cream on the market today and it can be confusing to know which brand to purchase. There are two different grades of skin care products- medical grade and normal grade. The best wrinkle cream that produces the best results are often medical grade. Medical grade skin care products have higher concentrations of active ingredients in them than normal grade or over the counter products. Medical grade products will show real results that are scientifically proven, where areas normal grade skin care products may not have this evidence. Medical grade skin care products will increase collagen and elastin production, which will reduce fine lines and wrinkles better. Medical grade skin care products will also decrease hyperpigmentation. More than likely, medical grade skin care products will show results that compare to cosmetic surgery results. An example of medical grade skin care products would be Advanced Dermatology’s skincare line. This skincare line, which is named the 90 Day Anti-Aging Regime, has 44 powerful ingredients in the five products. Over 80% active ingredients are used in this line to help even the worst case of wrinkles, where areas some wrinkle creams only have 3-5% active ingredients. Out of the five products, there are three wrinkle creams/treatments. The Complete Age Defense Day Cream was designed to combat ageing and sun damaged skin. The skin will be hydrated, balanced and refined as it protects against UV damage, oxidation and glycation. Active ingredients prevent moisture loss, keeping the skin nourished without a heavy feeling. The Anti-Wrinkle Firming Night Treatment boosts cell renewal and will decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Made with three essential peptides, skin will be smoother and younger looking with each application. The Deep Cellular Regeneration Cream firms the skin while repairing and building collagen, elastin, and essential proteins in the skin. This wrinkle cream was designed to make the skin look lifted and radiant.

What Ingredients Should An Individual Look For In the Best Wrinkle Cream?

Let’s face it, not all products are created equally, and this is especially true for skin care products. The best wrinkle cream will contain some of the best ingredients to reduce wrinkles, keeping the skin tight, age spot removal, dead skin cell removal and more. Some ingredients that are often found in the best wrinkle cream include:

  • Peptides- Peptides are proteins that are made of amino acids. They can be natural or synthetic. They work to slow the aging process by boosting collagen production. They can be classified as a signal peptide, which tell the skin to produce collagen or stop breaking it up. Carrier peptides deliver copper to the skin, which help with wound healing. The copper can also help with collagen production by stimulating it. Neurotransmitter peptides block the chemical release that causes muscles to contract. Peptides work by making the skin think there is no collagen, so it produces more to make up for the lost collagen.
  • Retinol- Retinol is a powerful antioxidant that helps to repair the skin. It is a form of vitamin A. With the use of retinol, the skin will be smoother, with fewer lines and wrinkles. Pore size is also reduced, while improving the appearance of the skin.
  • Alpha Hydroxy or Beta Hydroxy Acids- Newer skin cells will be exposed as the epidermis is exfoliated with these acids. Improvement will be seen on the skin as the dead skin cells are removed.
  • Antioxidants- Antioxidants help to repair the skin and to prevent damage. Some popular antioxidants include vitamin E and C, pomegranate, reseratrol, and green tea. Often times antioxidants will work hand in hand, improving the outlook of the skin when several of them are used together.
  • Hyaluronic Acid- This humectant can help produce more collagen. It draws water out of the air to help hydrate the skin. It is found naturally in the body.
  • Coenzyme 10- Fine lines and wrinkles may be reduced around the eyes with the use of this ingredient. The skin can also be protected from the sun.
  • Niacinamide- This antioxidant is very powerful. It can improve the elasticity of the skin, and also helps to reduce water loss.
