How to Get the Perfect Glow for the Festive Season

The holiday season is fast approaching so let’s talk about your skin. If you want to look positively radiant and glowing for a special holiday party or vacation then we recommend booking an appointment at your skin clinic right away. Here’s why: depending on your individual needs and concerns, it can take up to eight weeks (or longer) for your skin to repair and settle down post procedure and look its best.

To give your complexion a boost of youthful radiance, we’ll need to address one or possibly more of the following: lines and wrinkles, volume loss and sagging skin and finally, texture and pigmentation. Below is a list of treatments (based on concern) that can restore your skin’s natural glow and the amount of time you’ll need from start to finish:

Lines and Wrinkles

Wrinkles occur when the skin loses collagen, becomes thinner and more dehydrated. This is a natural process that occurs slowly over time. Cumulative UV exposure and environmental stress can accelerate it, thus why it’s called premature ageing. Additionally, there are two kinds of wrinkles: dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement and static lines that appear even when the face is at rest.

The most effective way to deal with dynamic wrinkles is to temporarily block the muscle contractions that cause them. By administering a small amount of anti-wrinkle injections into the muscle, the skin becomes much smoother, creating a more youthful “glowing” appearance. Results in: 7-14 days

Deep static lines cannot always be treated with anti-wrinkle injections alone. Our patients have experienced dramatic improvement in skin revitalisation after collagen stimulating treatments like Microneedling and PRP (Platelet-Rich-Plasma), also called Vampire Facial. We like to combine PRP with skin-tightening modalities like Ultratherma and Thermage for even better outcomes. Results in: 6-8 weeks

Loss of Volume and Sagging Skin

If you’re starting to notice the youthful plumpness in your face being replaced with loose skin then you may be experiencing facial deflation or volume loss. Dermal filler is extremely popular for addressing most types of volume loss because it’s a quick outpatient procedure with instant visible results.

Dermal fillers contain water binding molecules that restore a healthy glow by attracting moisture to your skin. We use high-tech, longer-lasting fillers to lift and restore volume to the cheeks, nasolabial folds and under the eyes. They’re also highly effective for contouring the jawline and augmenting the lips and chin. Results in: Instant

When it comes to long-term volume correction, combining technologies can produce complementary results. Skin-tightening devices such as Pollogen Tripollar® with radiofreqency (RF), ultrasound energy (MFU) devices like Ultratherma® or BTL Exilis® which combines both RF and HIFU can lift and firm facial structures, allowing dermal filler to work more efficiently. Results in: 10-15% after 6-8 weeks, will continue up to 6-12 months

Texture and Pigmentation

Dark patches and rough skin texture are textbook signs of sun damage and dehydration. What’s worse, these can occur even if you diligently used sunscreen and moisturiser every day, all year long. The sun’s UV rays are so powerful that cumulative sun exposure over several years can cause visible damage.

Our best go-to treatment for mild to moderate pigment and texture issues is the Oxygeneo Facial. It’s excellent for instantly boosting hydration levels, reducing hyperpigmentation with the added benefit of plumping skin and softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Tip: this is the perfect treatment to have a few days before a holiday party or going on vacation. Results in: 1-3 days

For more advanced cases of pigmentation we recommend technologies such as the BBL/IPL PhotoFacial or the Q-switched Laser Facial. The Q-switched Laser emits energy pulses in billionths of a second and is ideal for removing isolated pigmentation lesions. For larger areas or more diffused spots we recommend photorejuvenation using IPL. Results in: 6-8 weeks or longer.

To learn which treatment, or combination of treatments, can help you achieve that perfect glow just in time for the holidays we invite you to book a consultation with one of our medical skin experts.
