Non Surgical Eye Lift

Non Surgical Eye Lift Options: Making the Decision with Your Dermatology specialist

As people age, a common problem they may face is drooping eyelids and sagging skin around the eyes; however, many people cannot afford the expense of cosmetic surgery to repair this issue and instead look to non surgical eye lift treatments. The appeal of such treatments often comes from the fact that not only are they less expensive, but may be an overall better option for those who have sensitive skin or just prefer to avoid cosmetic surgery. If you have been considering a non surgical eye lift, the best way to make a decision about treatment is to do so with a skin specialist who understands your concerns and has multiple treatment options available to help you at his or her disposal. Many factors have to be taken into account, because the skin around the eyes is so thin and sensitive, that even topical solutions, if chosen inaccurately, can lead to long term problems and skin discoloration. Non surgical eye lift treatments also come with a number of side effects of which you should be aware of before you decide on a procedure, and it’s important not to lull yourself into a false sense of security just because you’re not going under the knife. In either case, they can provide a much faster, safer and easier alternative to surgical eye lift procedures.

The Ten Minute Eyelift

This non surgical eye lift treatment is truly a ten-to-fifteen-minute procedure that uses radiofrequency to correct drooping eyelids and the sagging around the eyes. If you choose this procedure, it will likely be performed at a skin care clinic or a doctor’s office and it’s important that you chose your specialist wisely. During the non surgical eye lift, the skin care specialist will mark the hooded area of each upper lid to target it, and then apply a small amount of gliding gel to the area. Once the area is ready to treat, the skin specialist will use a radiofrequency application on the area he or she is marked until the energy causes the drooping, loose skin to contract and the true eyelift can be seen.

You will be able to return to normal activities almost right away with this type of non surgical eye lift, although the treated areas will have to be cared for with ointment to keep the skin from drying out. These lines will heal completely in about a week and are unlikely to become infected. If you are highly prone to infections or have other skin conditions that affect the area around the eye, then this may not be the best option for you.

Fractional Laser Eye Lifts

Another non surgical eye lift treatment option utilizes fractional laser technology. Whist many skin clinics claim that this can help with sagging and drooping skin around the eye, we find that it’s benefit is more so to be found in treating fine lines and superficial textural concerns around the eye, like sun damage. During this type of treatment, a skin specialist will numb the eyelids with a topical anesthetic blocking ointment and then, depending on the type of laser being used, insert small plastic shields beneath the eyelids to protect the retinas before using a laser applicator to target small areas of the skin around the eyes that create invisible thermal lesions. This causes the skin in the area to go through a repair process and renewal while the energy of the laser may also stimulate collagen production to tighten skin naturally, but not as specifically as the radio frequency procedure option.

The duality of this non surgical eye lift treatment results in both immediate and long-lasting results for maximum effect. While you will need to repeat the procedure three times for optimal results, the treatments are performed on an outpatient basis, which means they require no hospital stay or extended downtime for healing.  In fact they are completely no downtime procedures.

After undergoing this non surgical eye lift, you may experience redness, puffiness, and some irritation, but you should be able to resume normal activities within 24 hours. Most of the side effects that are caused by this treatment subside after one-two days, but depending on your skin type, you may experience little to no swelling at all. While many doctors are still studying the long-term effects of fractional laser treatment as a non surgical eye lift option, some say that with a proper skin care regimen, the results can last up to five years.

Having Realistic Expectations

While there a number of non surgical eye lift treatments available, there are two things that you should keep in mind as your skin specialist helps you make a decision: your expectations and your budget. While some insurance companies may cover an eye lift procedure if a drooping eyelid is obstructing your vision, they are for the most part considered cosmetic procedures that you will have to pay for out of pocket. Your skin specialist can advise you about the cost of these non surgical eye lift treatments and may be able to provide extended payment options in some cases.

Titan Skin Tightening

The Titan Skin Tightening Treatment

Many people who are looking for non-invasive ways to tighten sagging skin have likely come across Titan skin tightening treatments or Titan Laser at one point or another. These treatments, which use infrared lights to penetrate the skin and boost collagen production, usually require little to no healing time and lack the kind of side effects that are common with other types of cosmetic surgery. Titan skin tightening treatments may be a possible option for people who want to tighten the skin on their face, abdomen, or neck without the use of artificial collagen. This procedure is often claimed to deliver the same results as medical-grade wrinkle fillers and collagen injections without damaging deeper muscle tissue but we treat those sorts of claims with suspicion. Titan skin tightening is usually performed in a skin care clinic by a dermatologist or other skin care specialist and is thought to be safe for most skin types.

How Does Titan Skin Tightening Work?

Titan skin tightening treatments work by introducing infrared light to sagging skin, which penetrates the epidermis and works to boost collagen production. Collagen is a protein in your skin that plays a big role in how firm your skin is, but over time the body decreases its production, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles. However, unlike radiofrequency treatments, the infrared light that is dispensed during a Titan treatment does not penetrate the skin at the same depth. The infrared light passes through its surface and interacts with the layer beneath it, where some skin care experts claim the energy stimulates and multiplies collagen fibers naturally.

What to Expect During Titan Skin Tightening

Titan skin tightening requires little preparation; however, those who use prescription retinoid creams to treat severe acne should speak to their dermatologist before undergoing the procedure, or discontinue use of such creams at least six months before getting the treatment, as the infrared energy may react with the medication and cause further problems. Skin that is tattooed cannot be treated with Titan skin tightening treatments, as the ink will interfere with the level of penetration by infrared light.

Before treatment, patients should ensure that the skin to be treated is clean. This is especially important if they will be using Titan skin tightening treatments for their face, as makeup or other heavy cosmetics may increase the risk of skin irritation.

If you have sensitive skin, or just don’t like pain, a numbing gel can be applied beforehand, but must be removed again when the treatment begins, which many lengthen treatment time. During treatment, the Titan skin tightening wand delivers the infrared energy and a cooling sensation simultaneously, which keeps the epidermal layer from becoming overheated. The length of Titan skin tightening treatments may vary depending on which part of the body is treated.

What to Expect After Treatment

Titan skin tightening treatments are designed to be minimally invasive so that those who undergo the procedure can return to work and resume other normal activities as quickly as possible. Many skin care experts assert that this infrared treatment has fewer side effects than other kinds of laser therapy, as the energy does not penetrate deeply enough to cause muscular atrophy. However, any patient who experiences redness or mild skin irritation can use cold packs to ease the irritation, which should resolve itself within several hours. Those who offer the Titan skin tightening treatment report that it will take up to four treatments for results to be noticeable.

Titan Skin Tightening Side Effects

Few side effects have been reported with Titan skin tightening treatments. In rare cases, patients with thin skin have developed mild wounds that required the application of antibiotic ointment, but this is not believed to be a common occurrence. Some people reported feeling a heated sensation at the treatment area, as if they had gotten a mild sunburn. Cool packs and ice are recommended in this instance, and the sensations should then subside. Nonetheless, talk to your dermatology specialist physcian extensively before getting the Titan skin tightening procedure to ensure that you’re not exposing yourself to unnecessary risk.

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening

Radio frequency skin tightening is just one of the many non-invasive anti-ageing treatments offered by skin care clinics and dermatologists today. This type of non-surgical facelift treatment introduces radio frequency (RF) energy to the skin of the face, creating measurable electrical currents that reshape and contract the skin’s collagen and then tighten the surface of the skin. Radio frequency skin tightening requires no cutting or repositioning of the skin, as is necessary during a traditional eye or face lift – and has significantly fewer side effects than older laser skin therapies. Much like laser treatment, RF energy penetrates both the epidermis and the dermis to tighten and rejuvenate the skin, but it causes no damage to existing skin cells. If you have sensitive skin but want to treat your fine lines and wrinkles, radio frequency skin tightening may be a good option for you, as it is gentler on the skin than most other kinds of thermal procedures.

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Overview

The effects of radio frequency treatments are mostly attributable to the heat that is generated by the RF waves. In the field of skin care and ant-ageing treatments, RF waves are most commonly used for facial rejuvenation and their believed ability to stimulate the protein fibers that keep the skin elastic. During treatment, the RF waves penetrate the skin to tighten it from the inside out, as they stimulate collagen fibroblast production, which will in trigger the production of fresh collagen fibres which result in tighter, more taught skin which is demonstrably younger.

Those who choose radio frequency skin tightening should keep in mind that depending on the strength of the treatment, it will require three or more to see any visible results and that treatments need to be repeated several times during the year. Radio frequency skin tightening is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not likely to be covered by any private medicare plans, so those who want to have the treatments will likely have to pay out of pocket for each individual procedure, which can cost hundreds, often thousands of dollars.

What to Expect During an RF Skin Tightening Treatment

Your skin care specialist may ask that you wash your face with a mild soap and warm water before you arrive for your treatment, as it is important that no excess oils or cosmetics remain on the skin that might reduce the effectiveness of the procedure. When treatment begins, a numbing cream will be applied to the skin and then allowed to sit until it takes effect. It will then be removed, and the skin care specialist will target the treatment area with an ink grid transfer so that the treatment is focused and that no other skin is accidentally affected.

A gliding gel will then be applied to the skin before the RF waves are delivered to the skin. Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you may feel a heated sensation during treatment, but the side effects of the treatment are believed to be minimal for most patients. When the treatment is over, the skin care specialist will apply a topical cooling gel to the treated area to minimize discomfort.

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Side Effects

You may experience some redness and swelling in the treated area after a radio frequency skin tightening procedure, but these symptoms should resolve themselves within 24-48 hours. Misting the face with cool water may help to reduce the irritation, although you should ensure that only clean, purified water is used for these purposes. Some patients have reported sinking of the skin in the treated area, but this has mostly occurred with intense RF treatments. In most cases, these treatments have a low instance of side effects and are considered a viable anti-ageing treatment for a wide array of skin types. However, keep in mind that multiple radio frequency skin tightening procedures are needed to show effects, so even relatively mild discomfort or side effects can become a headache over time. Consult a specialist physician for expert results and avoid low powered at-home devices.

Ultherapy Sydney

Ultherapy by Ulthera: Cost, Pain, Treatment Options, and Side Effects

Ultherapy by Ulthera is a relatively new skin tightening procedure that does not require the invasive, painful cuts and incisions that are associated with plastic surgery. It is one of several popular non-surgical facelift class of devices and skin practitioners providing Ultherapy in Sydney are growing in numbers. Unlike Thermage which used Radio-Frequency, this procedure uses high-frequency sound waves to boost collagen production and tighten skin far below the epidermal layer, where ageing of the skin truly begins. Ultherapy is most often used on the face and neck, as the treatment is designed to contour and firm the tissue there.

This “sonic” sound based facelift is a procedure that can be performed in less than an hour and requires minimal healing time, which may be an advantage for those who are looking for an anti ageing treatment that won’t interfere with their daily schedule. Ultherapy by Ulthera is generally approved for all skin types, but those who have skin problems such as chronic acne or Rosacea should consult their dermatologist before beginning treatment.

How Ultherapy Works

During the Ultherapy procedure the provider will use high-frequency sound waves to penetrate the epidermis of the skin, as well as the underlying soft tissue. These sound waves are meant to target specific areas, where the energy is focused and increased in order to firm muscle layers that laser treatments cannot reach. Ultherapy’s sound wave energy is thought to tighten skin by boosting collagen production as well.

This collagen production is thought to continue well after Ultherapy treatment takes place, smoothing and plumping the skin of the neck and the face to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines. Ultherapy treatments have been approved by the FDA, which may give patients peace of mind when they are considering this course of treatment for their wrinkles, but keep in mind that this does not mean that the procedure is safe in your specific situation. Also, keep in mind that since this is considered a cosmetic procedure, most insurance companies will not pay for treatment, which can be expensive.

What to Expect During Ultherapy Treatment

During Ultherapy, the dermatologist may use a topical numbing cream on your skin if you request it, or he or she may advise you to take an over-the-counter painkiller before your treatment in order to dull any discomfort you may experience during the procedure. The provider will then apply sonogram gel to your skin and use the Ultherapy wand to precisely deliver short, sonic bursts to your skin.

Depending on your sensitivity to pain, you may find the process mildly to moderately uncomfortable. In most cases, when the face and the neck are treated together, Ultherapy takes about an hour to complete. More focused sessions that target a specific area of the face may take as little as twenty to thirty minutes, but it’s important that you give yourself enough time both before and after the treatment to relax.

Once the Ultherapy procedure is complete, you will be allowed to go home unless there are unexpected complications. Since this is a non-invasive procedure, you should be able to resume normal activities right away and experience minimal side effects. According to dermatologists who perform the Ultherapy treatment, patients should see results within three to four weeks and then steady improvement over the following months.

Ultherapy Side Effects

Unfortunately, many people believe that just because a procedure is advertised by reputable doctors’ offices and skin care clinics, that the procedure is automatically safe for them. This is not the case. Different people have different biology and react differently to procedures. Just like one person may use a facial moisturizer with no problems while another develops an allergic reaction, treatments like Ultherapy, or any other treatment, can produce problems in certain individuals, especially those with sensitive skin.

With this particular treatment, some people have experienced mild to moderate swelling after the procedure, which usually goes away within 24 hours. Others have reported skin and muscle soreness, but this side effect is also temporary. Overall, there are thought to be few side effects associated with Ultherapy by Ulthera, but an open and honest discussion with your dermatologist is still the best way to figure out if this treatment option is right for you.

Refirme Skin Tightening

Refirme Skin Tightening

Refirme_Skin_Tightening

Refirme Skin Tightening Treatment is a top-of-the-line treatment method for aging skin with wrinkles and sagginess without going under the knife.  Refirme produces rejuvenated, youthful skin through the use of a unique multi-energy technology known as elōs™.  Elōs™ consists of the combination of radio frequency and optical energy which together creates an extremely controlled way to administer the appropriate amount of heat and provide desired effects without the pain of traditional method.  In addition to having a less painful experience, Refirme does not require downtime like the conventional laser and IPL skin treatments do.  Due to the decrease use of optical energy, Refirme offers treatment that is basically pain free.  This product is a way to say goodbye to those unwanted wrinkles and sagging skin in the matter of minutes. Previously used techniques caused more pain, can take more time to present desired effects, and are far more expensive.

Refirme can work on multiple areas of the body including the face, neck, abdomen, upper arms, and knees.  These areas can be treated very precisely in order to treat the specific problem areas such as drooping eyes. Refirme will lift, tighten, and revitalize the skin with essentially no pain and without the aggravating expense of downtime that is common in alternatives.

Nationwide, popular daily television shows have featured the benefits and perks of Refirme.  Refirme has received attention from television shows ranging from The Rachael Ray Show to Star Magazine, and it didn’t stop there.  Carnie Wilson, American singer and member of Wilson Phillips, has provided a significant amount of publicity on the product after her massive weight loss.

After a significant weight loss, loose, sagging skin can be unsightly and cause discomfort until a solution is found.  For Wilson, Refirme was the answer.  “I had a lot of excess skin – I just needed to have it firmed,” she said.  Because there was not longer fat remaining, procedures such as liposuction were not going to fix her dilemma.  Instead, Refirme was able to provide her with youthful, tightened skin without having to undergo massive surgery or major pain.

Refirme is an FDA approved treatment and does not require the use of drugs to treat wrinkles. With the hustle and bustle of today’s world, the urgency to get back to your daily routine is imperative. With Refirme, there is no need to take time off following treatment.  Rather, Refirme’s ability to provide treatment precisely to the desired area and without pain makes for practically no downtime. Typically, sensitive skin types find it difficult to have these types of procedures, but Refirme is safe and effective for anyone with any type of skin. Refirme is compatible with all skin types and skin colors.

Before Treatment

Prior to receiving Refirme Skin Tightening Treatment, it is important to take care of your skin and follow pre-treatment instructions. Preparation for Refirme should begin 2-3 days before you go in for the procedure.  It is recommended to avoid excessive sunlight exposure and to apply sunscreen if exposure is unavoidable.  Anything that may cause skin irritation should be avoided, including any topical treatments that you may apply.

The Day of the Procedure

The day of the procedure, you should arrive without anything applied to your skin. There should not be any lotion, make up, perfume, or anything that may create a barrier.  Before treatment begins, it is important to make the medical professional aware if you have any dental treatments such as crowns, caps, braces, or implants.  In order to reduce the risk of this area causing discomfort, the medical professional can provide extra gauze to these specific areas.

Post-treatment Instructions

After getting treatment, there will be some redness or swelling. You can expect return to normal, daily activities without delay. However, it is important to provide adequate care to the affected areas. If sunlight is unavoidable, SPF 30 or higher sunscreen should be applied frequently following treatment for the first week or so.  In order to reduce the swelling and redness, cold compresses should be applied to the treated areas. In addition to avoiding sunlight for the first week, it is also suggested that you avoid the use of hot water, saunas, hot tubs, or anything that exposes your skin to an excessive amount of heat for at least the first 3 days following treatment. When washing the area, it is important to use nonabrasive products in order to avoid irritation. Refirme offers a quick recovery with gradual and cumulative effects over the course of treatment.

Non-Surgical Nose Reshaping

Non-Surgical Nose Reshaping 101

While traditional surgical nose jobs offer permanent results, a less invasive, more affordable procedure may be just what the doctor ordered. Non-surgical nose reshaping, also known as a non-surgical nose job, non-surgical rhinoplasty, injection rhinoplasty, or the “15-minute nose job”, may be right for you. This simple procedure performed in the doctor’s office with dermal fillers has little risk, and relatively no pain or downtime. It may be just the alternative for those seeking minor to moderate changes to their nose but who are not willing (or don’t need) to take the risks associated with surgery.

Non-surgical nose reshaping is most effective for individuals who are looking to restore symmetry to their nose, smooth out bumps or lift drooping dips. While the nose cannot be made smaller with this procedure, often the smoother contours and symmetry will make the nose appear less prominent and smaller on the face.

Is non-surgical nose reshaping right for me?

Non-surgical nose reshaping is most effective to achieve the following goals:

  • Minimise the appearance of a bump on the nose using filler in the depressions in the surrounding area
  • Minimise or completely eliminate the appearance of dips, dents or grooves
  • Restore symmetry
  • Enhance the appearance of a lift on droopy tip of the nose
  • Define the contours of a flat bridge
  • Create a more angular appearance to a rounded tip
  • Redefine a “scooped out” or “saddle-nose” appearance (genetic or the result of a prior surgical rhinoplasty)

What is involved in non-surgical nose reshaping?

You will begin with a thorough consultation with your doctor, during which your goals and expectations are discussed and refined. Once a treatment plan has been devised, a topical numbing cream is applied to the nose and any surrounding areas to be treated. After allowing the skin adequate time to lose sensation, the doctor injects small amounts of dermal filler the areas of the nose that are to be treated to achieve the look you want. As the doctor goes from one area to the next, he or she will likely have you examine the results in the mirror so you can see the process and make any comments or give feedback as the procedure progresses.

What is the recovery like from non-surgical nose reshaping?

There is no downtime associated with this procedure and most patients return to their regular daily activities immediately afterwards. Some patients experience some minor swelling which resolves within 24 hours. Patients are advised not to wear heavy eyeglasses or sunglasses for two weeks after their treatment.

Are there any risks associated with the non-surgical nose reshaping procedure?

Non-surgical nose reshaping has many fewer risks than traditional rhinoplasty. It does not require general anaesthetic or any IV sedation. Some patients request oral sedatives to help them feel relaxed during the treatment. Unlike its surgical counterpart, non-surgical nose reshaping does not require an incision and thus carries much less risk of infection.

It is however not a completely risk-free procedure. Minor risks include:

  • Sensitivity reactions
  • Infection
  • Lumpy, asymmetrical or unsatisfactory final result

Who is not a good candidate for non-surgical nose reshaping?

Individuals who want to reduce the size of their nose, either wanting an overall smaller nose, a thinner bridge, removal of a large bump or a thinner tip will not be able to accomplish their goals with this procedure. Non-surgical nose reshaping will not address breathing irregularities caused by structural defects like a deviated septum. Neither surgical rhinoplasty nor non-surgical nose reshaping can produce a flawless or perfectly symmetrical nose. Both of these procedures are intended to improve what is naturally occurring.

Are there any additional benefits to the non-surgical nose reshaping procedure?

Injections with fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse, or Restylane are temporary, lasting six to twelve months. To keep up the new look of your nose, you will need repeated periodic treatments. However, this is a major benefit of this procedure. Over time, your face will change shape as a result of gravity. Your personal preference or even fashion may change and you are able to fine tune your non-surgical nose reshaping at each visit with your doctor.

Nose Job Before And After

If you have always been displeased by the appearance of your nose, there are options that can effectively alter the way that it looks. Both surgical and non-surgical procedures are very effective at changing the way that your nose appears. They also can effectively change the entire aesthetics of your face. The difference in the way you look can range from subtle to dramatic, depending on the complexity of the work done. Nose job before and after pictures demonstrate how much a nose job can change your life and the way that you look.

Rhinoplasty-Sydney-Before-and-After

There are two different types of nose jobs, surgical and non-surgical. The appropriate course of treatment is reliant upon the complexity of the alterations needed. If major reconstruction is required, surgical options may be a better alternative. To correct congenital malformations, or functional abnormalities, surgical options can target change more effectively. If you are looking to have a nose job to make little differences in the shape of your nose for aesthetic purposes, then non-surgical options are a much better alternative.

Non-surgical nose jobs can be done in office by a Cosmetic Physician. Costing a fraction of the price of surgical nose job, the results are not permanent unless you want them to be. The plastic surgeon starts by using fillers in the nasal region to alter the shape of the nose. The amount of fillers will be dependent upon the change that you want to make. The results are immediate, so you are able to see the change as it occurs, rather than waiting for the tissues to heal and repair from surgery. If you are displeased with the results, they are temporary. By taking nose job before and after photos, you can instantly see the difference.

Results from a Non-Surgical Nose Job:
To learn more about our non-invasive nose job treatment click HERE.

If you aren’t happy with the alterations made, the fillers will reabsorb over time. If you like the look created, there will be minimal, regular touch up required. If you want to make further changes, it will be as simple as adding more fillers, or adding them to different areas. Changes to the original plan are simple. One of the biggest advantages of non-surgical nose jobs is the absence of down time required. You are able to return to your normal activities the same day.

The nose job before and after photos of non-surgical nose jobs are incredible. It is hard to imagine that a change that is so effective can be performed in just one office visit. The results can really be astonishing. The amount of reshaping that you want can be altered over time, unlike surgery. With surgery, once the procedure is over, making any changes will take more surgery, more downtime, more pain and more expense. The non-surgical nose job is the quickest and easiest alternative, with the most dramatic results possible.

If you are looking to change the way that you look by altering the shape of your nose, non-surgical rhinoplasty is the best way to begin. After all, if you don’t get the results that you desire, or before and after comparison is not to your liking, you can always proceed to the more invasive surgical options available.

Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is a common skin condition that typically affects light-skinned individuals aged 40 to 60 years. It appears as a reddish, ruddy rash, most often on the face. If left untreated, rosacea can worsen over time. Diagnosis is made by simple physician examination. While there is no cure for rosacea, there are many rosacea treatment options that provide good relief from symptoms.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory condition of the skin which causes redness, usually on the face. The rosacea rash appears as small, red, pus-filled bumps on the affected skin.

Signs and Symptoms of Rosacea

Rosacea is characterised by redness of the skin. It can be present on the cheeks, chin, nose and/or forehead. While rosacea is more common amongst women, when it appears in men it is often more severe. Symptoms of rosacea can appear and disappear inconsistently. This condition, because it is so prominently visible on the face, can be embarrassing and anxiety provoking. These feelings can be so severe to the point that in some people, it can significantly affect social lives. Some common signs and symptoms of rosacea are:
■      Persistent redness of the skin
■      Burning or stinging of the affected area
■      Dilated or visible blood vessels, red spots of various sizes and small red bumps (pustules)
■      Inflammation of the eyes and eyelids
■      Regular blushing or flushing
■     In men, the nose can become swollen, red and bulbous as a result of overgrown oil (sebaceous) glands.

What causes rosacea?

There is no known cause for rosacea. Since some rosacea patients respond to antibiotic medications, some scientists believe that it is a bacterial infection. Other research indicates that rosacea is caused by a malfunction of the blood vessels resulting in their rapid dilation. Either way, it is clear that rosacea is not a contagious disease. While there is no specific evidence to show that rosacea is genetic, it does appear to run in some families.

Some lifestyle factors have been shown to exacerbate rosacea symptoms. These include consuming alcohol or spicy food, exercising, extreme temperatures (high or low), exposure to UV rays and stress.

Treating rosacea

While there is no known cure for rosacea, there are effective rosacea treatments which can significantly reduce symptoms. The variety of treatments may have different effects on different patients, and treatment options should be selected in consultation with a skin expert. If left untreated, rosacea can become worse and cause permanent scarring or other issues. Treatment is recommended as soon as the condition is diagnosed.

Treatment options may include oral or topical medications, laser or light therapy, and lifestyle modification.

If you suspect you have rosacea:

■      Take measures to protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays
■      Consider changing any lifestyle factors that may be contributing to your rosacea symptoms such as alcohol intake, stress, etc.
■      Experiment with different non-irritating cosmetics which may help to mask the rosacea.
■      Avoid harsh cleansers or scrubs, or any physical scrubbing of the affected area as these can aggravate the rosacea.
■      Consult your skin expert.

Broken Capillaries Treatment

Broken Facial Capillaries: Causes and Treatments

Broken capillaries are most common on the skin of the face, where the skin is exposed to daily environmental toxins and chemicals from makeup, facial treatments, and other damaging factors. While this condition isn’t harmful, it can cause unsightly red veins to rise to the surface of the skin. There are several factors that cause broken capillaries, and anyone who experienced this problem knows that these vessels do not heal on their own. However, there are a number of treatment options available to repair these broken veins and make them less visible. If you have considered seeking medical treatment for broken capillaries, you should first be aware of their causes, how treatment may affect your skin, and whether there are any side effects that will cause long-lasting skin damage.

The Causes of Broken Capillaries

Broken capillaries have a number of causes which includes environmental and genetic factors, skin type, and even natural ageing. While people who have fair skin are more prone to develop broken capillaries, especially on the face, almost anyone can suffer from this problem at one point or another.

Broken capillaries occur when the walls of the veins that carry the blood to the skin weaken, dilate and become more visible against the surface of the skin. The walls may become weakened from rapid expansion and contraction from tobacco and alcohol use, extreme temperatures, and from excessive scrubbing with harsh chemical cleansers.

Broken capillaries are more likely to occur in those with thin or sensitive skin or in people suffering from other skin problems like rosacea or severe acne. Some doctors believe that in some cases, genetics may even play a part in the development of broken capillaries, but there are several options for treatment once they occur.

 Treatments for Broken Capillaries

The most common treatment for broken capillaries is laser surgery, and as with any treatment for this problem you should first consider its potential impact on your skin. During laser treatment, light pulses are sent into the veins, which impede their blood flow and eventually destroys them. After several treatments, the affected veins collapse away from the surface of the skin, leaving it smooth and blemish-free.

While laser treatment for broken capillaries can be used on nearly any part of the body, this option is most often utilized on the face, where a highly targeted treatment approach is required. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, which means it does not require a hospital stay, and has a relatively quick recovery time.

During the process, those who are undergoing treatment are highly unlikely to require pain medication or local anesthesia, although some doctors may use a mild numbing agent on patients with sensitive or thin skin. The laser pulses that penetrate the skin to destroy the veins cause mild snapping sensations, but no aftercare is needed and most patients can go about their daily activities without restrictions. Not all patients experience side effects from having their broken capillaries treated, but there are several that may occur.

Side Effects of Broken Capillaries Treatment

Depending on the type of laser used, some side effects of treating broken capillaries may include stinging or irritation during the process, redness and swelling after treatment, and in some cases, peeling or crusting of the treated skin. All of these side effects are temporary and should vanish a few weeks after treatment. There are little to no long-term effects believed to be associated with having laser treatment for broken capillaries, but if you decide that this may be an option for you, it’s best to discuss all possible outcomes and side effects with your  experienced cosmetic medical clinic beforehand.

Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is an extremely popular way of removing fat from different parts of your body. So popular, that it most often measures in as the most popular invasive cosmetic procedure in Australia. Contrary to what some people may believe, liposuction is not a way to lose weight. This procedure provides the best results for those individuals who have a healthy body weight but need to get rid of small pockets of fat that tend to accumulate in certain areas of the body. Is it the best solution to treating stubborn pockets of fat? Like with any procedure its important to look at the pros and cons.

How it Works

The process of liposuction is not complicated. Generally all that it involves is a hollow tube and a suction device, and of course, a surgeon. A tiny incision is made on the area that needs fat removal and a small hollow tube, called a cannula, is inserted into it. The cannula is attached to a vacuum pump. The surgeon breaks down the fat cells by pushing and pulling the cannula and the excess fat is sucked up by the suction device. There are different types of liposuction and they can be distinguished by the amount of fluid used and the way the cannula is directed.

The procedure has become commonplace, and is minor enough that it can be conducted when the patient is awake. After your procedure, some pain medication and oral rehydration is administered to the patient to help address any discomfort and help replenish liquids lost during the process. After the anesthesia and sedation wear off, you’ll be pretty much ready to resume normal life. You might still feel uncomfortable and need a few days to fully recover, but most people are able to go back to work within a few days.

Problem Areas

The method of liposuction can be used in many areas of the body, including abdomen, breasts, hips, inner and outer thighs, inner knees, upper arms and back. Some popular fat related problems that can be remedied by the use of liposuction are a double chin, love handles, breast reduction, flabby arms, fat around the neck and belly fat.

Liposuction gets your body in shape and the change can be observed as soon as the surgery is over. It is very useful for taking out small pockets of fat that cannot be addressed by an exercise routine. However, if you do regain weight after the procedure, the removed fat will most likely appear in another place on the body.

Potential Problems

Although the process of liposuction is not considered dangerous, it is still a surgical procedure, and as such, it comes with risks attached. The complications of liposuction range from minor infection at the site of surgery to something as serious as blood clotting.

Some known complications of liposuction are –

•  If the area is liposuctioned for too long, it can result in a lump and waviness.

•  The area might get infected and require antibiotics.

•  Some may experience skin loss or skin burns.

•  Since liposuction involves creating an incision and inserting a tube, organs may get damaged if not carefully carried out.

• The worst and probably the most dreaded risk of liposuction is blood clotting that can also lead to death.

The possibility of having complications is rare and liposuction is generally a safe procedure if performed by a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon. There is always a chance that you will have side effects. They are not as dangerous as the complications listed above and include bruising, scarring, swelling, numbness or loss of sensation and wrinkling of the area.

While liposuction can work on certain areas of fat, it cannot help in procedures like tightening skin, removing stretch marks, eliminating cellulite or flattening your abdomen. Most importantly, liposuction is not an alternative to exercise, just a tool to address small problems that would otherwise be difficult to fix.

Liposuction should be performed by a qualified Cosmetic Surgeon or Plastic Surgeon to reduce risks. Advanced Dermatology offers both injectable and laser alternatives that can offer a safer alternative to Liposuction. Please contact us for further information.
