Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a non-invasive treatment used to restore youth and volume to the face. As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity and natural hydration. This, combined with the effects of gravity, can lead to lines, wrinkles and sagging of the skin.

Fillers are an excellent treatment to restore volume and plumpness to lips, chin, cheeks, the jawline, the area under the eyes, and even the nose. In some cases, fillers can be used to improve the appearance of scars.

Dermal fillers are fast and easy. They are administered via tiny injections and the results are visible instantly. Filler injections are quick and simple, and provide instant results with a minimal amount of discomfort and downtime.

How Does Treatment with Dermal Filler Work?

Dermal fillers are gels that consist of a substance that mimics what is naturally found under the skin.

After a consultation with your physician during which your goals and expectations will be thoroughly discussed, your physician will lay out your treatment plan. Your procedure will then begin. A numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area and you will wait about 30 minutes for it to take effect.

A tiny needle will be used to inject the filler into the targeted areas. Your physician may apply ice at the same time to minimise bruising. Between treatment areas or sides of your face, your physician may give you the opportunity to examine your face in the mirror. Your input can be used to guide the procedure as it progresses.

We all want to look and feel our best and dermal fillers offer a simple and painless way to knock years off your appearance. The natural gel is completely safe, and actually encourages the skin to produce more collagen to restore a youthful appearance.

What Happens After your Procedure?

Immediately following your treatment you can return to your normal daily activities. There is no downtime associated with this non-surgical procedure.

How Long Do the Results of Dermal Filler Treatment Last?

Our treatment uses non-permanent dermal fillers. This means that together, we can fine-tune or completely change your results. The results of your Dermal Fillers Sydney treatment can last from six months to two years, depending on the type of filler used in your case.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Answers to all of Your Questions

Q. Are dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections the same procedure?

A. No. They are actually very different. Dermal fillers are a gel-like consistency that is injected into various areas to provide volume and a plump look. Anti-Wrinkle Injections are made from a neurotoxin that is designed to temporarily paralyse the muscles. Each of these will provide very different results we recommend coming in for a obligation free consult with our cosmetic injector  to ensure you know which one you want and which one will provide the appearance that you are trying to achieve. Viewing before/after photos can help you to see how the two injections vary.

Q. Are there different types of dermal fillers?

A. There are several different brands associated with dermal fillers and many of them are capable of doing different things. Most of the fillers are designed to work on a particular part of the face, such as the lips or the cheeks. They can also vary in terms of how long they will last before the next injection is needed.

Q. How often do I need the injections?

A. The amount of time in between injections will vary from person to person as well as with the product that is actually used. Often, you will need to go back four to six months after the initial injection in order to get a second round. As you continue to get injections, however, you will notice that you won’t need them with the same frequency because the gel within the filler is able to stay in place. Some brands also recommend a “top up” at the 14-day mark following initial injection and then you can go for a full year.

Q. Are there any side effects?

A. There are limited side effects with dermal fillers because they are made from water and hyaluronic acid, both of which are found naturally in the body. Some people may encounter some redness, swelling, and irritation at the injection site for a few hours and potentially for a few days after the procedure.

Q. What are dermal fillers primarily used for?

A. Dermal fillers are a non-surgical option in order to improve the appearance of the face. Depending upon where the filler is injected, it can correct fine lines, reduce folds and creases, minimise loss of volume, enhance lips, sculpt the jawline, and construct a better nose and/or chin. This provides many of the same benefits as a facelift or reconstructive surgery without having to go under the knife.

Q. What are the costs?

A. The cost of dermal fillers can vary from medical practitioner to medical practitioner. Much of the pricing structure depends on where the injections are being made, how many injections are needed, and the actual product that is being used. It may be possible to save same money with dermal fillers by purchasing multiple sessions in advance, which is essentially giving you a bulk discount.

Q. Will the injections hurt?

A. A thin needle is used to inject the dermal filler into the skin, so there will be a small pinch when the needle goes in. Numbing gel will often be used at the site prior to the injection and there are some newer dermal fillers on the market that have lidocaine inside of them, which is designed to help minimise the pain experienced with the injections. The pain is minimised as much as possible, but as for whether it will hurt, it depends on everyone’s threshold for pain.

Q. Can any dermal filler be used?

A. There are many dermal fillers on the market, we recommend coming in for an obligation free consult and speaking to one our health practitioners to see which dermal fillers would be best suited for your needs.

Q. What happens to the gel under the skin?

A. Once the watery gel is injected under the skin, it provides the subtle change in appearance that you are looking for. Over time, the body will absorb the gel. Additionally, there are going to be other things going on, including repairing the collagen, which has to do with the elasticity of the skin. The gel is providing nutrients and moisture to the skin and this is helping to smooth out wrinkles. This is why you will continue to see improvements to your appearance weeks and even months after the initial injections.

Q. What happens during the consultation?

A. When you decide that you want a dermal filler treatment, your first step is to contact us for a no obligation consultation. As they are a relatively safe procedure, most people are able to go ahead with treatment on the same day. However, before we do that your skin type will be explored to ensure you do not have any skin conditions that could prevent you from experiencing the benefits of dermal fillers. Severe acne, rosacea, and other skin conditions may prevent you from having the injections. Once it has been cleared that you can get the injections, you can then begin to ask questions that you may have.

Q. Can lumps form under the skin?

A. In the past, some patients have said that they have lumps under the skin after getting dermal fillers. This can be normal and will often go away naturally as the gel is absorbed into the skin. The lumps are not visibly noticeable and can only be noticed when pressing on the face. Some dermal fillers are more commonly associated with lumps than others.

Q. How will I know what dermal filler to get?

A. Coming in to see one of our health practitioners about what you want to change about your appearance is an important first step. There may be crow’s feet by your eyes or marionette lines by your mouth that you want to improve. You may want to get rid of the hollows under your eyes or change the look of your lips or your chin. Once you tell our health practitioner,  we will make recommendations based upon what each of the dermal fillers are most commonly used for and provide you with an idea of what the dermal fillers can do for your look.
